In my Patriarchal Blessing it says that I will become what the Lord wants me to be over time. I have been really praying that that promise will come to pass. We had a teaching workship on Monday and I got crazy sick at dinner. I went into the bathroom and hurled and went right out and taught my lesson with power and authority. I love being able to say, "As a disciple of Jesus Christ, I know these things are true." I know Heavenly Father is taking care of me here. The food is not very good - but all in all I love being here. I have learned so much. How to be on top of laundry, make my bed everyday, exercise everyday, and especially how to stay close to the Lord. In my everyday study I have been taking time out to read specifically out of the New Testiment, with the purpose of learning and coming closer to the Savior. I'm so grateful for His example. I learn something every single day that is applicable to every day life. I love Him. In Matthew 6: 20-21 it talks about "where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." I have come to realize that my heart is with him, and my family. I want to be with my family forever. Make sure you read your scriptures every single day, never miss because otherwise you're missing out on an amazing day. Love you tons. Willie PS Everyone write!

I am learning the importance of dilligence in studying. I have come to realize tht the spirit doesn't work with those that don't strive to be consistant even when it's hard. I came up with a routine. Everytime I get tired I go get a drink, and move into the hall to study whatever I need to. It's amazing how the Lord blesses those who strive to be dilligent in learning His word. My schedule is pretty basic, it changes every day. We wake up at 6 because my comp like to wake up 30 minutes early, lol, we get ready and are in class usually by 7. We have personal study for an hour, and then breakfast, after we either fo to class or it's comp study. We are in the classroom typically for 10-14 hours a day. You can se why it can be hard to stay dilligent. But I know that it's not right to waste the Lord's time, he deserves the best. We have gym at a different time throughout the day. I usually play basketball or four square and run... My comp lifts weights for free. Love you Vanhin Perry

We got a compilation of letters today so here they are all combined.

Things are going really good here! My second day here I was made a District Leader, and I have been trying really hard to fulfill that calling and do good in my classes. We have about 14 hours of class a day and it drives me insane! I am jumping up and down in my chair by the time the day is over. I love the work here, it's crazy intense. I am really starting to get a sense of how the spirit works in my life. It's a miracle to walk out of a lesson from an investigator, and realize you taught with power and authority.
It was hard adjusting the first week, but now I'm doing great! Always write me and always remember to keep the Lord in your decisions about whatever you decide to do. He always takes care of His Saints.
I forgot to tell you, one of my leaders from the branch presidency is going to call you to come see you. He is a hero to me here.

Thank you so much for the letters... they mean so much to me. Things have been going good here. I feel a lot better about the MTC this week. I had an awesome experience the other day. One of the elders in my district was having a problem so he came up to me and said, "Elder Perry, can I talk to you?" Of course I said yes. We went on a walk to the dorms and he told me about a problem he was having with his companion's teaching. I decided that we should say a prayer before we really discussed it. We did so. After the prayer it was like I knew exactly what to say to this elder to help him. I was so grateful for the companionship of the Holy Ghost. He went back and fixed things with his comp, and they went and had an awesome lesson with an investigator!!
Another experience I had was while teaching. Elder Orr and I went to teach this lady, and we did horrible!! We went out of the classroom, and organized ourselves a bit, and I read a quote from Preach My Gospel saying, pray that the Lord will loose your tongue, so that you can teach his children or something like that. We did so, and we went back and taught with power and authority!! I know the spirit is with those that recognize the need for Him. It's the spirit that brings truth into the hearts of God's children, not Elder Perry. I am so grateful for the Holy Ghost's companionship.
I love you guys so much, and I want you to know that I'm taken care of here. The Lord is with his missionaries, all the time.
Love you so much,
Vanhin Perry

Things are going pretty well here, my first day was horrible. But after I got over the feedle position, things were okay. I miss you guys like crazy. I was so overwhelmed!! My second day my branch president gave me the calling of district leader. I was like... uh, okay haha. But I have been learning to rely on the Lord instead of myself, or other people. Make sure and email me by next Wednesday, but reply back to me at DearElder.com. We get those letters the day you send them, and I believe they are free. I have received a few of those from my friends. My companion is an ex-Army Ranger. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has some crazy stories, but no real sense of humor. Haha, hopefully he doesn't see me type that. I love my district and zone, and email account system, haha, I feel bad for him.
We went to the temple today which was nice, and we have been relaxing from a long week. Finnish is amazingly difficult, but I'm just trying to take it in a little bit at t a time. I miss naps so much, but whatever.
I love you so much.
Remember to always read your scriptures, "Feast upon the words of Christ, for the words of Christ will tell ye all things which ye should do."

3/3/2011 Letter home

Dear Mommy, Daddy, and Mike,

Things are going good here. Yesterday was really hard settling in, but today is a really good day.
My companion is cool, no real sense of humor though. He is an army vet from Iraq. His name is Elder Orr. I am beginning to love him like a brother, just like my other roommate companions. They are all amazing.
The other elders and sisters in my group are awesome too! Everyone is really nice. Although things are hard to cope with. I know that Heavenly Father will help me, and I'll be kickin it with the Finns.
I love you guys so much, and miss you guys so much.
Love Elder Perry
PS Please pray that I'll receive the gift of tongues. Do this every day - it will make a difference.
